Sicherheitszentrum Tirol — Design of the wayfinding system

In 2025, ARE Austrian Real Estate will complete the Sicherheitszentrum Tirol in Innsbruck on behalf of the Federal Ministry of the Interior. Büro Perndl was commissioned to develop a wayfinding system for the seven-building service center. Its first sections are already open to the public.

The building’s usage ranges from a citizens’ service point to a police shooting range and is subject to complex accessibility and security regulations, which are made visible in the visitor guidance system through color differentiation. All applications — from central distribution signposts to floor directories and door signs — follow a design grid that mirrors the horizontally emphasized structure of the exterior facade. The interchangeable individual elements are modeled according to the administrative structure. A clear typography based on the ministry’s corporate design and a series of pictograms were created in accordance with the applicable accessibility regulations.
